In East Sussex we have a wonderfully varied landscape within which to craft our walks.
(Image right : Wilmington village across fields ... in contrasting light)
From the Ashdown Forest in the north (surprisingly different), the Forest ridges running eastwards from there through Rotherfield (woods, and views, Follies and disused railways), south across the Wealden areas (rolling and varied, lush woodlands and streams in profusion); on south through the South Downs (open, rolling, and surprisingly stark in places and remote ~ with hidden folds) to finish finally with the shingle beaches and cliff paths of the coast. Through it all are rivers (the Sussex Ouse, the Cuckmere) and to the east the Pevensey and Hooe Levels.
Let us take you there to explore. Find the "secret places" that we so enjoy, away from the motorists and the visitors car parks. Enjoy the wildlife available to view, and above all the peace and beauty. Absorb some of the history of this special land ~ fought over from prehistoric times through the Norman invasion, the Roman occupation, the Battle of Lewes, the Civil War; see the World War Two Ring of Steel defences against invasion along the waterways ...; and the effects of centuries of industry shaping and reshaping some areas, naming others and reclaiming others from the sea.
